National Rankings will be updated and published after each event.

To receive an official end-of-the-year ranking, a team must play 3 events together, with one of those events outside of their home region. Nationals is considered an out-of-region event no matter its location and is the only NRT with this designation.

NRT points for a specific tournament exist for 12 months and are replaced by the following year’s event.

Removal of any earned NRT points due to rules infractions or punishment for player behavior will be enforced as instructed by the APTA National Tournaments Committee.

Based on odd size draws, last chance play and feed-in draws, the points may have to be adjusted slightly to correctly award teams for their final placement.

Ranking points earned in a NRT event will follow the published National Ranking point schedule multiplied by the tournament weighting designated by the Committee after the event is completed.

Grand Prix tournaments are rated at 4.25. Other NRT ratings are calculated by adding up the total seeding points of the top 16 teams prior to each event. The total number of points will then be compared to the APTA Weighting Schedule below to get the rating, with a maximum rating of 4.0. Nationals will be evaluated year to year and adjusted as the Committee sees fit.

The Committee reserves the right to make adjustments to ranking, seeding, or weighting procedures should any anomalies arise.

Any player who finishes his/her previous match and loses, is responsible for playing his/her next scheduled back draw match, except in NRT Quarterfinal Reprieve back draw matches detailed below, which include all Grand Prix events and the Men’s and Women’s National Championships. Players must communicate their intent to default to the Tournament Director or APTA Tour Director prior to their scheduled match time.

Additional details on Quarterfinal Reprieve Back draw matches:
The Quarterfinal Reprieve in draws over 16 teams is OPTIONAL.
In one day 16 draws the quarterfinal reprieve is MANDATORY.
Optional matches are counted for the purposes of a 3 match guarantee. If all four teams choose to default, all four teams will receive 7th place points. If a team loses or defaults in the semi-final of the Quarterfinal Reprieve, the team will receive 7th place points. A team in the final of the Quarterfinal Reprieve is guaranteed to receive 5th or 6th place points. A team that wins the Quarterfinal Reprieve final, either by default or by playing and winning the match, will receive 5th place points. A team that loses the Quarterfinal Reprieve final, either by default or by playing and losing the match, will receive 6th place points. If both teams default in the finals, they will each receive the average of 5th and 6th place points. If one team wants to play the Quarterfinal Reprieve semi-final match and the other three teams do not, that team will receive 5th place points and the other three teams will receive 7th place points.

Default Penalties:
In all National Ranking Tournaments, players who default a main draw or back draw match for reasons other than injury or emergencies will lose all points for that tournament. (See above for exceptions.)

Seeding and instructions for the pull of the draw for all NRT events will be done by the Committee and the local tournament director.

Seeding and Placement of Seeds (listed and non-listed) will follow the guidelines as follows:

• NRT seeding and qualifications for Grand Prix events and Men’s and Women’s National Championships, will combine each player’s three highest results across the two previous years. Results from the immediate previous year are counted at 100% and will be prioritized over results from the prior year. Any results going back over a year will be counted at 75%.
• Player A (Average of top 3 tournament results in previous 2 years) +
  Player B (Average of top 3 tournament results in previous 2 years)
  = Team Seeding.
• The number of listed and non-listed Seeds will be determined by the number of participants and format of the event.
• Tournaments with 9-16 entered teams will have 2 listed seeds and up to 6 non-listed seeds;
  17-32 entered teams will have 4 listed seeds and up to 8 non-listed seeds;
  33-64 entered teams will have 8 listed seeds and up to 16 non-listed seeds;
  65-95 entered teams will have 16 listed seeds and up to 16 non-listed seeds;
  96-128 entered teams will have 16 listed seeds and up to 32 non-listed seeds.
• Events that host PTI events or multiple NRT draws, on the same weekend, will receive additional listed and non-listed Seeding teams; this will be at the discretion of the Committee and the local tournament director.
